Dr. Tuck's Passing

Dr. Tuck's Passing

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of N. Ray Tuck, Jr., DC after a long battle with cancer. He fought heroically but ultimately lost the battle on Sunday, 2/11/2024.

Dr. Tuck was a Virginia native and resided in Southwest Virginia his entire life. He graduated from Radford University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Science.

While in college, Dr. Tuck worked for his father, a Chiropractor, and saw incredible transformations in the lives of patients. He saw how his father would treat patients that were unable to walk and have them back on their feet, walking again – without the use of drugs or surgery. Dr. Tuck was amazed and knew that he wanted to be part of this profession that had such a significant and positive impact on the lives of others.

He was inspired to further his studies and earned his second Bachelor of Science, in Human Biology, and his Doctorate of Chiropractic from The National College of Chiropractic. After completing his education, he returned to Southwestern Virginia to work alongside his father Nathan Tuck, Sr. D.C. In 2002, he purchased the Christiansburg and Blacksburg clinics from his father. What began as two practices eventually grew to 11 practices spanning from Galax to Bedford, Pulaski to Rocky Mount, and all areas in between. In 2011 Tuck Chiropractic Clinic was named one of the top 50 rising and growing companies in Virginia by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce.

Dr. Tuck served as Chairman of the Virginia Board of Medicine, an appointment by the Governor of Virginia. He also served as president of both the Virginia Chiropractic Association and the American Chiropractic Association.

As a community member, Dr. Tuck always felt it was important to give back. He was a member of the Montgomery Economic Development Authority. He served on numerous boards over the years to include the Blacksburg Chamber of Commerce, The Boys and Girls Club and The American Red Cross Board – where he served as chairman for three years. He was a member of the Christiansburg Moose Club, Pulaski Elks, Hokie Club and Blacksburg Sports Club. Dr. Tuck received many awards over the course of his career including the Montgomery County Small Business Person of the Year award, the 2004 AND 2017 UVCA Chiropractor of the Year award and 2019 ACA Chiropractor of the Year Award.

Current UVCA President Dr. Michelle Rose share, “Ray always offered wisdom and guidance for our profession and for our profession leaders. He was a great chiropractor and colleague, but he was also a great friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.” UVCA Executive Director Ms. Julie Connolly added, “Dr. Tuck had a knack for relating to anyone, whether a chiropractic colleague, fellow healthcare provider, or legislator. I was honored to work closely with him when he was president of the Virginia Chiropractic Association. His business savvy, authentic and kind spirit, ready smile, and friendship will be sorely missed.”

Dr. Tuck will forever be remembered for his love of his family, care of his team and patients, great business vision and gift of making us laugh with his one-of-kind stories. We will share details of a celebration of his life as they become available.
